Code of Ethics for Interspecies Communicators

Formulated in 1990 by Pelelope Smith

Our motivation is compassion for all beings and a desire to help all species understand each other better, particularly to help restore the lost human ability to freely and directly communicate with other species.

We honor those that come to us for help, not judging, condemning, or invalidating them for their mistakes or misunderstanding but honoring their desire for change and harmony.

We know that to keep this work as pure and harmonious as possible requires that we continually grow spiritually.  We realize that telepathic communication can be clouded or overlaid by our own unfulfilled emotions, critical judgments, or lack of love for self and others.  We walk in humility, willing to recognize and clear up our own errors in understanding others’ communication (human and non-human alike).

We cultivate knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of human, non-human and interspecies behavior and relationships, to increase the good results of our work.  We get whatever education and/or personal help we need to do our work effectively, with compassion, respect, joy and harmony.

We seek to draw out the best in everyone and increase understanding toward mutual resolutions of problems.  We go only where we are asked to help, so that others are receptive and we truly can help.  We respect the feelings and ideas of others and work for interspecies understanding, not pitting one side against another but walking with compassion for all.  We acknowledge the things that we cannot change and continue where our work can be most effective.

We respect the privacy of people and animal companions we work with, and honor their desire for confidentiality.

While doing our best to help, we allow others their own dignity and help them to help their animal companions.  We cultivate understanding and ability in others, rather than dependence on our ability.  We offer people ways to be involved in understanding and growth with their fellow beings of other species.

We acknowledge our limitations, seeking help from other professionals as needed.  It is not our job to name and treat diseases, and we refer people to veterinarians for diagnosis of physical illness.  We may relay animals’ ideas, feelings, pains, symptoms, as they describe them or as we feel or perceive them, and this may be helpful to veterinary health professionals.  We may also assist through handling of stresses, counseling, and other gentle healing methods.  We let clients decide for themselves how to work with healing their animal companions’ distress, disease, or injury, given all the information available.

The goal of any consultation, lecture, workshop, or interspecies experience is more communication, balance, compassion, understanding, and communion among all beings. We follow our heart, honoring the spirit and life of all beings as One.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How does this work?

A:  The most direct answer is Telepathy, a non-physical form of communication.  The easiest way to understand it is to think about the radio receiver you use in your car or at home.  You can't see, feel or touch the radio waves but your receiver can perceive the waves and interpret them into a form you can understand.  This is exactly how animal communicators work.  Animals do communicate with pictures, sensations, emotions and words.  If an animal works with pictures I am able to work in pictures; if they work with sensations or emotions I work with sensations or emotions.  I like to speak the same language your pet speaks.  That way there is less room for misinterpretation or misunderstanding.

Q: What can my animal tell me?

A: Oh, so many things.  Are they happy, healthy, if there is something bothering them.  Do they like the house-sitter, groomer, boyfriend, the new dog in the house, where they were before they came to you? Do they want an additional animal in the house?

Q: What if my animal has a particular problem? Can you tell them what to do?

A: Sure, I can tell them BUT because this is a living, breathing, thinking individual with free will they are the one to make decisions.  Some actions are inherited and natural, because of these facts we cannot expect an animal to be something it is NOT.  However, based on my many years of education, training, daily interaction with animals of all species, I can give you options and explanations.  Sometimes the owner has to change their behavior to achieve the desired end result. When I make a suggestion I consider the animal first and foremost and then suggest holistic and conventional options to resolve the problem.  All of my practice is based on referrals from clients, veterinarians and trainers.

Q. Why have many people come to you for help when nothing else has worked?

A: People are natural skeptics.  I am glad of that, but they get into a position that they feel they do not have any other option, so they try animal communication.  Most of the time that is all it takes, the next time they will consult the source (their pet) early in the process.

Q. Do I call you only when I have a problem with my pet?

A:  You don't need to have a problem to call. Clients call me anytime they want to communicate with their pets.  Possibly they are going on vacation, or someone is coming to visit that may be a challenge to the household.  When you want to improve the communication between you and your pet you call.  It may just be curiosity or wanting to get to know how your pet thinks or relates to you or the world. The animal may be adopted and you are hoping to have a better understanding of their history.  Any reason to call is a good reason.
